The New Orleans Saints have released a pair of receivers today, cutting veterans Steve Breaston and Patrick Crayton. The Saints have been looking to add more depth on their roster at the receiver position, but it looks like they have done a good job at grooming the young talent they already have on the roster.

Marques Colston and Lance Moore are listed as the team’s starters while Nick Toon, Andy Tanner and Kenny Stills are battling for playing time behind them. Releasing the vets early will allow those guys to find another team to catch hold with in the offseason.

There are still teams out there that are hungry for wide receivers and these vets can fill those roster spots. With a couple of preseason games still left on the schedule, injuries are going to happen and teams will look toward these guy’s direction. I am sure that Breaston will get some interest. This might be the end of the line for Crayton. He didn’t play last season and now gets cut this year.
