The Oakland Raiders had to cut their 4th round draft pick, Tyler Wilson, in order to make room for an undrafted free agent, Matt McGloin. McGloin outplayed Wilson during training camp and during the preseason and earned his roster spot while Wilson was sent his walking papers.
Today, Wilson cleared through waivers and the Raiders picked him up for their practice squad. Every other team in the league passed up on the 4th round draft pick. Wilson was the highest draft pick this season to be given his walking papers.
Wilson is an expensive practice squad player, but at least the Raiders still have a chance to develop him for the future. It would have been a lot more painful to the Raiders if another team decided to pick him up. Still, it looks like a wasted draft choice at this point.
