Starting Running Backs Weren’t The Only Ones Who Did Well
Considering the amount of hype going into week one of the starters who did so well last season, it was amazing to see the amount of backups who came in and excelled. For example, former Cal RB Shane Vereen rushed for 101 yards in light of the poor play of Stevan Ridley (2 fumbles). Lion RB Joique Bell rushed for 25 yards and 2 touchdowns for the Lions, great considering the unbelievable day of Reggie Bush. As well, Fred Jackson added his own 108 yards from scrimmage to almost double starter C.J. Spiller. Although these week one results didn’t have any serious effect on depth charts, they are very important in the case that week two produces similar results. If starters from week one don’t produce yards and touchdowns, you will definitely be seeing 2nd string backs take charge.
