With the injury to Christian Ponder, backup QB Matt Cassel will get the start for the Minnesota Vikings on SUnday against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Londin. Coach Leslie Frazier revealed that Ponder has a fractured rib.
Ponder suffered the injury in the 2nd quarter last Sunday against the Cleveland Browns. He struggled to complete passes late. Struggled more than he normally struggles. He got x-rays on Monday, but still tried to endure through the pain and practice for the last 2 days.
“He’s a tough, tough guy, but it probably wouldn’t be wise to put him in that situation,” Frazier told reporters. “We have complete confidence that Matt will do a good job, our players are going to support him and he’ll be the guy that will be leading us to victory on Sunday evening.”
The home crowd booed Ponder last week against the Browns. If Cassel were to do well, he may have a chance of sticking as the starting quarterback. IF…
