New England Patriots DT Vince Wilfork appears to be done for the season after suffering a torn Achilles in New England’s win over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.
There is no time frame for the recovery yet, but the injury usually takes about 6 to 9 months for players to return.
Wilfork went down on the Falcons first series on a play where Wilfork stepped on another player’s foot. Wilfork had to leave the field on a cart and ended up leaving the stadium in a protective boot on his foot.
Wilfork is one of the most durable defensive linemen in the league. He is 31-years old and has never really gone through a serious injury of this caliber.
The depth on the Patriots roster at the position is thin. The likely replacements with Wilfork out are 10-year vet Tommy Kelly and rookies Joe Vellano and Chris Jones.
Keep an eye out on the waiver wire to see if there are any other replacements that can be brought in for more depth.
