Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera is already looking at different opportunities for the 2014 season. He will likely last with the Panthers for the entire season, but he is unlikely to return to the team in the 2014 season. New Panthers GM Dave Gettleman inherited Rivera for this season and will likely look for his own head coach to run the team. That just leaves Rivera in a situation where he is keeping the seat warm for the next guy that is brought in.
The Panthers are already doing their “background checks” on potential head coaches for the 2014 season. It must be interesting in Carolina knowing that you will not be the head coach for the team next season.
Rivera’s only motivation now is to perform well so that another team will give him an opportunity to be the head coach in 2014. If nobody wants to give him the opportunity to be a head coach, I am sure that there will be some teams out there that would love to bring him in as a defensive coordinator. He will be coaching for someone next season.
