Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson was a surprise scratch on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers because of a knee injury and now he has not been spotted on the practice field for Wednesday’s practice session. Johnson barely practices on Wednesdays anyway, so this is not a huge shocker, but for someone who missed last Sunday’s game, it is something to keep our eyes on.
It could be another game time decision on Sunday against the surprising Cleveland Browns team. I am sure that Matt Stafford would love to have his top weapon back on the field. Johnson has 21 receptions this season for 312 yards and 4 touchdowns. There is nobody on the roster that can fill that production when he is sitting on the sideline.
With Calvin out, Stafford had to rely on dumping the ball off to his tight ends and running backs on Sunday. Brandon Pettigrew led the team in receptions with 4 catches for 59 yards and Tony Scheffler was next with 4 receptions for 55 yards. Stafford is going to need to throw to a receiver at some time. With Calvin out, he has nobody that he can trust to throw that rock out to.
