Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson did not participate in practice yesterday and is not expected to step onto the practice field at all this week so that he can rest his injured knee. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Johnson has swelling in his knee and will likely be a game-time decision again this weekend against the Cleveland Browns. Last weekend, it was surprising when he was placed on the inactive list.
Head Coach Jim Schwartz has already said that Calvin does not need to practice in order to be on the field on Sunday and he also added that he often excelled at less than 100% last season. Maybe we punch him in the gut and chop him at the knees all the time then?
Without Calvin on the field, QB Matt Stafford will likely use his tight ends and backs out of the backfield more. He doesn’t have a real good weapon out at receiver with both Calvin Johnson and Nate Burleson out of the game. Burleson is out with superglue in his arm.
