Decision For Chip Kelly Should Be Easy, Nick Foles Should Be Eagles Starter

With the injury to Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick, Nick Foles got his opportunity to be the starter again under head coach Chip Kelly and he showed that he can handle the offense and move that football. Now the quarterback controversy is going to begin again in Philly and Chip Kelly will likely hold his cards close to his chest and name his starter at the very last second. Vick looked like he had a chance to start on Sunday, but he was held out to rest his injury more.

With Foles taking the start, he completed 22 of 31 passes for 296 yards and 3 touchdowns. The decision for Chip Kelly should really be an easy one. Foles is younger, cheaper and he doesn’t turn the football over. He also is not fragile like Vick.

With Foles coming off a solid game, Kelly has to ride the hot hand. He needs to go with what is working. When Foles came in against the Giants in week 5, he went 16 for 25 for 197 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Nick Foles should be the starting quarterback for the Eagles. It wouldn’t make any sense to go back to Vick at this time.

I agree with you but not for the same reasons. Foles is younger and cheaper, but I don’t think he’s a better QB. Vick throws a better deep ball than Foles does, and his rushing ability adds another dimension. While Foles looked excellent, I don’t think you can draw too much out of one game, especially a game against a dysfunctional opponent. I do believe that the Eagles should allow Vick to heal up for another week, and lie and say that he isn’t healthy (assuming he is healthy by then). Why do I want Foles to start? Since Vick only has a year left on his deal, the Eagles need to continue to see what they have in Foles and they need to see if his game against Tampa was legit. They need to see if he has made huge strides, and I think another week of Foles starting will allow the Eagles to get a better idea of what is going on. Kelly probably would rather have Vick starting since he fits the scheme better, but Foles’s youth makes him more appealing as the QB of the future type. Combine that with Vick’s injury history, and it’s best to allow Vick to rest that hamstring another week while also giving Foles another chance to show his stuff.

I think your right, and reason is at the end of the day it comes down to who the eagles can depend on, to be in the game. At this point Foles has shown up and that is big part of being a player. I believe Vick is the better QB, but the question has been “how many games will he play?” The ability to stay healthy and play good enough overrides great play when it healthy enough to play.
