The Green Bay Packers are going to sign QB Scott Tolzien off of the practice squad. With Aaron Rodgers going down with an injury and likely out for a few weeks, the team needed to add another quarterback onto the roster. The team will bring up Tolzien to be the backup to Seneca Wallace.

Tolzien has spent time with the San Diego Chargers and San Francisco 49ers previously. As a Chargers fan, I know a little bit about Tolzien from his short stint with the Chargers. He was a crowd favorite during the preseason and we thought he would make the team as a 3rd quarterback. He showed potential, but the team decided to continue the season with only 2 quarterbacks on the roster.

When he was released this season by the 49ers, many Chargers fans were interested in bringing him back on the roster, but there was no chance of that happening with Charlie Whitehurst and rookie Brad Sorensen already on the roster. Tolzien has a strong arm and should provide decent depth on the roster if Wallace goes down. He could give Wallace a bit of a run for the starting job if Rodgers has to sit on the sideline for longer than we like.
