Like most professional teams in New York, the Jets are constantly put under a microscope. Geno Smith, the teams rookie quarterback, knows the feeling by now. His early season success has come and gone. The former West Virginia star hasn’t reached the end zone since week 9, and that was a rushing touchdown. He hasn’t thrown a touchdown in about a month and a half, which is absolutely awful.
Geno’s weak play has critics clamoring for him to be benched. The Jets, who are in the thick of things in the playoff hunt, need some sort of spark and it doesn’t seem like Smith is able to provide it to them at this point in time. Some people see David Garrard, the longtime Jacksonville Jaguar QB, as a viable option.
We can officially put all of that speculation to rest. Team officials have killed any rumors that they might bench the rookie passer. The teams quarterback coach, David Lee, has informed Geno Smith that he will remain the starter.
