The Oakland Raiders have signed former Texans LB Sam Montgomery, per Ian Rapoport. Montgomery was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2013 NFL Draft and was released by the Texans for disciplinary reasons. He was one of the three players that were released after the coaching staff had caught the players smoking weed in the hotel room.
Montgomery looked like a top prospect heading into the draft out of LSU, but his stock dropped after question marks came up with his character and with his effort level. He admitted to taking some plays off during his pre-draft interviews and it made him drop to the 3rd round.
He looked like a player that could develop into a good pass rusher. He was released early in the season and had been sitting in the unemployment line for a while waiting for some team to give him a chance. He will get his opportunity with the Oakland Raiders to prove that he can play this game at a high level. He has a couple of games left this season to show the Raiders coaching staff that he is worth keeping.
