The Houston Texans have been doing their shopping for a head coach. They already have talked to former Bears head coach Lovie Smith. There seems to be a lot of interest in San Diego Chargerrs offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt and another name that is high on the list is Penn State’s head coach Bill O’Brien, per Ian Rapoport.
The Texans are looking to add a head coach with some experience on their sideline and they likely will be looking to add someone that can rejuvenate their offense. Both Whisenhunt and O’Brien fit that mold better than Smith. Smith is more a defensive minded head coach.
Wade Phillips also would be a candidate for the job and he is serving as the interim head coach now.
O’Brien’s experience in the league with the New England Patriots will play a huge factor in the Texans interest. O’Brien has had experience on the NFL sideline and he also has had experience calling the shots as a head coach on the college sideline with Penn State.
The Texans have a head start on all the other teams for their head coaching job since they canned Gary Kubiak a few weeks ago.
