The Houston Texans have hired Bill O’Brien to run the show and one of the names that is getting mentioned for the defensive coordinator position is former Kansas City Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel. Crennel has worked with O’Brien in New England.

Crennel would be a great hire for the Texans and Crennel would have a great group to work with if he were to join the Texans. He would have J.J. Watt to anchor the defense on the defensive line. Hopefully he could keep Brian Cushing healthy for the season.

The hiring is still a rumor at this point, but the hiring of Romeo Crennel makes a lot of sense. O’Brien plans on interviewing Wade Phillips for the position as well.

O’Brien still has not determined if he wants to roll with a 3-4 defense or a 4-3 defense. Wade Phillips and Romeo Crennel both are 3-4 defensive coaches and the Texans switched to the 3-4 defense in 2011 with the hiring of Wade Phillips.
