For the last couple of days, there was talk that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers would be bringing in Rob Marinelli as their defensive coordinator and Leslie Frazier would be part of the coaching staff in some capacity as well. It turns out that Frazier will be the defensive coordinator for the Buccaneers, per Josina Anderson.

Frazier had just been fired from his Minnesota Vikings position that he had spent the last 3 seasons doing. He had spent a few years coaching the Vikings defense before he took the head coaching job in Minnesota. Frazier will be joining former California coach Jeff Tedford on the Buccaneers staff.

The Buccaneers have a bunch of playmakers on the defensive side of the football. Frazier will be able to work with Lavonte David, Darrelle Revis, Mark Barron and Dashon Goldson on his new defense. I think that the team will make a nice turnaround with the new staff in place. I think the defense can do very well.

Frazier has a great background. I’m a little hesitant about the OC. Cal had a rep for producing high draft pick qbs who flopped in the NFL before Aaron Rodgers finally made it. Rodgers had Favre for a mentor, too, though, and Favre backups usually had good careers when they went on to become starters (Would maybe make a good article topic!). So far, so good, nonetheless.

That’s good sign that Smith is hiring coordinators, so he can focus on being the head coach. Frazier is good coach, it didn’t look like he had a plan for the QB situation in minasota.
