The Jacksonville Jaguars and the San Francisco 49ers have agreed on a trade for Blaine Gabbert. Gabbert will now be the backup to Colin Kaepernick in San Francisco and the Jaguars were actually able to get some compensation for Gabbert. They were able to get a 6th round draft pick for him, per Michael Fabiano.
That is impressive that the Jaguars were able to swing a deal for a player that they were going to release. That is a nice move for the Jaguars.
The 49ers will try to work with the young quarterback and try to get him back on the right track. Gabbert was selected in the top 10 of the draft a few years ago, but has fallen off the planet with the talent that was in Jacksonville. The 49ers must be hoping that it was the talent that surrounded him that made him a bad player. If the 49ers are able to make anything out of Gabbert, they will have another trade chip on their hands. It didn’t cost them much for a backup quarterback.
