The Carolina Panthers have released WR Steve Smith, per the Carolina Panthers. After working to get a possible trade done, they were not able to find any interest for his services at that price tag and have cut their ties. It is an end of an era for the franchise.

Smith is the Panthers franchise leader in receptions and receiving yards and receiving touchdowns, but the team was ready to move on. The team was worried about him being a distraction in the locker room and they wanted to pass the locker room over to Cam Newton and Luke Kuechly.

Smith will get some interest around the league and there are a number of teams that could use his services. He had listed out a few teams that he would like to get traded to and those teams could be the ones he is looking to sign on with.

He listed the Baltimore Ravens, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New England Patriots, Dallas Cowboys and San Diego Chargers. All those teams could use some help at the receiver position.
