Bears Release Earl Bennett, Bucs Could Be An Option

The Chicago Bears have cut ties today with WR Earl Bennett, per Jeff Dickerson. Bennett is a 7-year veteran and has been a solid option on the Bears offense for years, but with the signing of Israel Idonije, the team needed to free up some room under the cap. Bennett was the casualty and it will open up a spot at the number 3 wide receiver position.

The Bears will likely turn to youngster Marquess Wilson to take over that spot, but he is unproven and the Bears would need some depth and competition at the position. Wilson will likely be the front-runner for the spot.

With Bennett available, he could draw some interest from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bucs are in need of some depth at the receiver position and Bennett has the connection with head coach Lovie Smith in Tampa. It could be a nice little match for the two sides. Bennett would get to work with a coach he is familiar with and he could get playing time.
