Eric Decker Paid $25k to Jeff Cumberland For Jersey Number

Eric Decker is now a member of the New York Jets after free agency and one of his first orders of business was locking down his number with the Jets. He wanted to keep the number that he has been using with the Broncos, so he had to do some negotiating with Jeff Cumberland in order to lock down the number 87.

Cumberland worked his magic and was able to con away $25k from Decker and a steak dinner, per Manish Mehta. Maybe Cumberland has a future as a sports agent. He just needs to con that money away from owners and general managers.

$25k for a freaking number? I know that Decker has $36 million in his pockets now, but that still seems like a ridiculous amount of money to pay for a number. I am also one cheap Asian that wouldn’t want to spend a steak dinner for a number. It is just a number and wouldn’t hold much significance to me. If Cumberland wasn’t doing much with the number in the first place, then it doesn’t have many super powers in the first place.
