San Francisco 49ers RB LaMichael James will not be attending training camp with the rest of his team this week , instead he will be prepping for the season in Texas on his own, per Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area. James has been the subject of a lot of trade talk of late and his non-attendance to voluntary training camp will just add a little more fuel to that fire.
James wants to get more playing time on offense, but the backfield is crowded and James is not anywhere close to a part of that mix. The only way that he is able to contribute to the roster at this point is through special teams. He still is a good special teams player, but for someone that was drafted in the 2nd round, he is wasting away on the 49ers bench.
The team would want to get some compensation for his services and have had him on that trading block. There might be a team that reaches out to San Francisco, but they might have to wait till the draft gets closer. Until now, James will keep his distance and do his own workouts.
