2014 NFL Draft: Minnesota Vikings select Anthony Barr

The Vikings decide to go with the defensive side of the ball here with their first round pick in the draft. With the 9th pick in the draft, the Vikings selected UCLA linebacker Anthony Barr. Barr will add some power to new head coach Mike Zimmer’s defense.

Barr will fit in nicely with that defense too; if you look back at Zimmer’s time as the Bengals defensive coordinator, he liked his fast, versatile linebackers. Barr is just that, he has the ability to play his natural position as a linebacker or even put his hand in the ground and play on the defensive line.

With the loss of Pro-Bowl defensive end Jared Allen, Barr will be expect to attempt to fill in his void. Barr has a knack for getting to the quarterback, but can also drop back into coverage and clover a tight end or even a wide receiver. A good pick here for the Vikings as Barr will has some versatility to their defense.
