With the passing game picking up steam of late, teams are trying to counter the high flying offenses by taking defensive backs in the draft. NINE defensive backs were taken in the first round of the draft this year. Everyone wants to follow the footsteps of the Seattle Seahwaks and their secondary so teams are spending their high draft picks in order to find members of the secondary.

With all those players taken in the secondary, no running backs were taken in the first round . You might as well have told all the running backs that the draft starts on Friday.

Here are the defensive backs that were taken in the first round:

Justin Gilbert, Cleveland Browns

Kyle Fuller, Chicago Bears

Darqueze Dennard, Cincinnati Bengals

Jason Verrett, San Diego Chargers

Bradley Roby, Denver Broncos

Calvin Pryor, New York Jets

HaHa Clinton-Dix, Green Bay Packers

Deone Bucannon, Arizona Cardinals

Jimmie Ward, San Francisco 49ers

The depth in the secondary for this draft is strong, but the first round had 9 players disappear. How will the next few rounds of the draft work out for the position. Running backs will have to start getting picked some time.
