Ryan Pickett wants to play in 2014

Free agent NT Ryan Pickett intends to play football in 2014. He doesn’t have a team to play for YET, but he wants to find a team for the coming season and he wants to get on the field for the 2014 season. The 34 year-old-veteran has value for some team as a nose tackle in a 3-4 scheme. He is a big body in the middle of the defense that can clog up the running game.

With teams moving more and more toward a passing attack, the nose tackle position doesn’t have to see the field as often. They usually will be on the field for the first couple of downs and then taken out in passing situations. Some team might be willing to give him a chance to play. Pickett might have to wait until training camp and preseason and he may be hoping for an injury or for some poor performances from younger people on the field.

Teams know his value on the field already. They know what he is capable of and they are likely looking to see what talent they have on their own roster first.
