Analysis:

These are two very different dynasties. Obviously the 49ers’ dynasty spanned a much longer time, for the entirety of the 1980s. Whereas the Cowboys’ dynasty lasted for only half a decade. But length of a dynasty isn’t necessarily an indicator of a the ultimate greatness of a dynasty. Sure, the Niners accrued more seasons of success during their dynasty, which is certainly impressive, but the ‘Boys packed more of a dominating punch into the years of their dynasty. So which is better? Looks like we need to compare more than just the length of each dynasty.

The 49ers went to more playoffs (nine out of their 10 years), but the Cowboys made it every year of their dynasty (six out of six). Of course San Francisco fans would like to point out that the only year they missed the playoffs was in the strike-shortened season of 1982. The 49ers had a better overall winning percentage, but the Cowboys had a much better playoff winning percentage. San Francisco won two AP MVP awards and the Cowboys only won one. Both sent five players from their dynasty to the Hall of Fame. Although, it’s more impressive that the Cowboys sent five from a six year span, rather than five from a ten year span like the 49ers did. The 49ers had two better overall seasons, in terms of total wins, but the Cowboys won three championships in a four year span.

Both of these dynasties can make legitimate claims at being the superior dynasty. Their respective accolades speak for themselves and both sides present certain impressive aspects. And both franchises are forever entrenched in the DNA of American culture and NFL lore because of these dynasties’ accomplishments. So it’s tough for us to say which is better.

This is where you come in. We at NFL Spin Zone want to know what you, the fans, think about this question. Compare these two dynasties’ accomplishments and answer our poll question if you wish. Which team will come out on top? We’re letting America decide.

This poll will be open for only one week!

This is the second installment of NFL Spin Zone’s series comparing the NFL dynasties head to head. In part one of the series we put the 1960s Packers up against the 1970s Steelers. The results of the poll were shockingly 72% for the 1960s Packers and only 23% for the 1970s Steelers, with 5% saying it was too close to call. In a surprising outcome Titletown pulled a massive victory over the Steel Curtain.

The winner of this poll will go up against the Green Bay Packers of the 1960s. And the winner of that poll will go up against the New England Patriots of the 2000s to decide once and for all which is the greatest dynasty in NFL history.

Feel free to plead your case for the dynasty you believe to be better in the comments section.
