The Carolina Panthers remain confident that quarterback Cam Newton will be ready in time for Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, after battling rib soreness. Both Newton and head coach Ron Rivera stated last week that the former Auburn player would be 100% for Week 1.

Rivera remains optimistic over his quarterback, despite missing practice Wednesday. As reported by NFL.com, the Carolina coach said, “I’m optimistic. I expect him to be there, and we’ll see how it unfolds.”

“We’ve got to look at this as we go through it day by day”

If Cam Newton isn’t on the field Thursday, then that would raise some serious red flags for the Panthers fans and team alike. The other two quarterbacks currently listed on Carolina’s depth chart are Derek Anderson and Joe Webb.
