Jim Harbaugh denies report he’s losing locker room

San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh is one of the best in the business, but he’s also become a center of controversy due to reports indicating rifts between him and ace GM Trent Baalke, as well as a report earlier today from the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport that Harbaugh is losing the respect of his players, particularly veterans. It’s a concerning report, though one that most people find difficult to believe, because most people don’t like buying into controversial reports and because Harbaugh is known by some fans as a player’s coach.

  • The San Jose Mercury News’s Cam Inman reports that the outspoken and entertaining 49ers head coach has unsurprisingly denied Rapoport’s report that he’s losing the locker room, and he added that players “consistently” communicate with him if they are having issues. Rapoport replied, “Please tell me he said @RapSheet” in a joking manner, and I’m sure one of the top insiders covering the NFL won’t waiver from his report. He’s been wrong before about controversial things (See: Roethlisberger, Ben), but he’s easily one of the best at his job and isn’t wrong often.

It will be interesting to see if this will be an issue, but I don’t expect Harbaugh to lose the respect of his players despite his reputation for being a micro-manager. These sorts of things only become issues when a team loses, and the 49ers are coming off of a huge win. If they don’t get the results they want, then maybe it would be time to start getting worried about the reports that would circulate.
