Toby Gerhart, Cecil Shorts Injury Updates

Jacksonville Jaguars star wide receiver Cecil Shorts missed the team’s 34-17 loss against the Philadelphia Eagles, which could have been an incredible win had the Eagles not bounced back from an improbable 17-0 half-time deficit to roar back to a 34-17 victory. UDFA rookie Allen Hurns was the star of the show with four receptions for over 100 yards and two TDs, and you can only imagine how good the Jaguars WRs will be once Cecil Shorts returns to health and Ace Sanders gets back from his suspension.

  • The Florida Times Union’s Ryan O’Halloran reports that the injury-prone wideout will try to run on Tuesday, and this will dictate his practice status this week, which will then tell us if he can play. Shorts is undeniably a talented wideout, and he showed us last year that he can play through the pain. But these nagging hamstring injuries are troubling and are impeding him from becoming a true WR1 in this league. With Hurns and Marqise Lee looking good, the Jaguars can still make do without Shorts for another week.

New feature back Toby Gerhart was the victim of a horse-collar tackle from Philadelphia Eagles talented DL Fletcher Cox, and Gerhart suffered an ankle injury on the play. Although the injury caused a significant amount of soreness, the tough-as-nails RB played through the pain but finished the game with subpar numbers on the ground. It isn’t going to get any easier for Gerhart, as the offensive line in front of him could be one of the worst in the NFL, especially given the struggles of a certain center.

According to Jaguars official site beat writer John Oehser, Gerhart is dealing with an ankle sprain and will be limited at practice to start the week, but he should be a full-go against a Washington Redskins defense that shouldn’t be difficult to beat.
