After week one the Minnesota Vikings are tied with the Detroit Lions at 1-0 atop the NFC North. The Vikings dismantled the Rams a week ago in an impressive 34-6 victory. Leading the way was their stellar duo of wide receivers in Greg Jennings and burgeoning superstar Cordarrelle Patterson. Quarterback Matt Cassel showed poise in the season opener as he served as a quality game manager function. That is exactly what the Vikings need from him this year as he’s surrounded by an impressive cast of skill players.

The biggest weapon that Cassel has on his side is future Hall of Fame running back Adrian Peterson. Despite Peterson’s lack of a big game against the Rams, the Vikes still put on an impressive showing. Even though they aren’t the sexy pick to win the NFC North — they are a force to be reckoned with.

There are many things that Vikings fans should be excited about, but one has to be the way the defense played in the season opener. Yes it was ‘only’ against the Rams, but that is no reason to discredit their impressive showing on defense. They’re poised to continue this success this week. Even though the Vikings are at home, they’re betting underdogs. After Sunday there will be no overlooking this squad when they send the Patriots back home to New England with an 0-2 record.
