Devin McCourty says Cordarrelle Patterson is ‘Definitely one of the most dynamic players in the NFL’
The New England Patriots and Minnesota Vikings will face off this week in what should be an interesting encounter, as Matt Cassel will face off against his former team after helping the Vikings blow out the St. Louis Rams in Week 1. On the other hand, the Patriots are coming off of an incredibly disappointing loss in which they blew the game, and their offensive line will have to face off against another very talented defensive front, which includes the pass rushing trio of Brian Robison, Everson Griffen, and Anthony Barr.

Their challenges are also apparent on defense, as Adrian Peterson, Kyle Rudolph, Cordarrelle Patterson, and Greg Jennings comprise an excellent quartet of skill position players. Patriots safety Devin McCourty is good enough to cover the three standout pass-catchers, but he knows just how difficult it will be to stop someone with Patterson’s speed and explosiveness.
McCourty said of the Vikings returner and big-play weapon, via NESN’s Doug Kyed, “Definitely one of the most dynamic players in the NFL. He can kind of hurt you in a bunch of different ways on the field. Definitely probably the most dynamic players we’ve seen, even though it’s still early. He can do everything on the field. He’s definitely a tough matchup.”
Patterson also received praise from McCourty for his ability to break tackles, which will undoubtedly be on display this week and will call for top-notch tackling from the Pats back seven. With his speed and agility, Patterson can generate huge yards after the catch off of short passes in addition to breaking things open downfield. It’s the former that should be more worrisome for the Patriots, because as long as D-Mac is in deep coverage, the Patriots are fine on vertical passes.
