Ben Tate looking to return in Week 5?

facebooktwitterreddit

Cleveland Browns No. 1 running back Ben Tate could easily find himself Wally Pip’d as the top dawg in the Browns deep running back stable, as he will miss a few weeks with a knee injury that he suffered against the Pittsburgh Steelers last week.Tate’s injury didn’t seem overly serious at first, but it became clear that he is dealing with a multi-week ailment. Smart money has the Browns letting him rest up until the bye week before bringing him in, but rookies Terrance West and Isaiah Crowell are so talented and have played so well that it might not matter.

  • According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer’s Mary Kay Cabot, Tate stated that the team’s Week 4 bye week “comes at a good time”, implying that he and the Browns are targeting Week 5 as his return date. It makes plenty of sense, especially since his timeline has been set at 2-4 weeks. There’s actually no guarantee his knee will heal up by then, but it’s a good timetable to keep in mind.

The biggest injury worry for the Browns right now is tight end Jordan Cameron, who could miss this week’s game against the New Orleans Saints after aggravating a shoulder injury last week. He’s one of the most important players on the Browns, whereas Tate can easily be supplanted by the other running backs on the roster without much- or any- of a drop-off, especially in the short term.
