Josh Gordon suspension will likely be reduced to eight games

A new drug policy is still being ironed out, but it will most likely reduce the suspensions of Josh Gordon, Dion Jordan, Orlando Scandrick, and Wes Welker this season once it is put into place. There’s a lot of uncertainty at this point, but it’s starting to become clear that Gordon, who is the most notable name and is suspended for the entire 2014 season, should end up seeing his suspension time cut in half.

  • Per a source close to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Gordon’s suspension is expected to be cut down to eight games, and this reflects a report sent out by FOX Sports’s Mike Garafolo. Now, a local beat writer has chimed in with a similar report, as sources close to the Cleveland Plain Dealer’s Mary Kay Cabot state that the new drug policy will reinstate him for half of the season.

These three reports form an incredibly reliable combination, and Gordon, per Cabot, will be counted under the new agreement, which could be passed today, since his suspension started after the beginning of the new league year. It’s an excellent development for Browns fans, and the new drug policy should have a helpful effect on the entire league with less draconian punishments in place.
