Brett Hundley leaves game with arm injury
UCLA Bruins star quarterback Brett Hundley is one of the top 2015 NFL Draft prospects, though there are still some skeptical that he has the consistency to be a franchise quarterback in the NFL and a first-round pick in the upcoming draft. There’s no doubt that Hundley has exceptional physical tools, as he’s easily one of the strongest quarterbacks in the country. Unfortunately, UCLA’s porous offensive line is undoing some of Hundley’s toughness, as he’s already been subject to some tough beatings this year.

According to the Los Angeles Times’s Bill Plaschke, Hundley is currently on the sidelines and receiving treatment after suffering a left arm injury. The Bruins took a UCLA timeout in order to get him off the field, though this could be a precautionary measure. Jerry Neuheisel is currently under center for UCLA, and most college football fans are holding their breaths hoping that we won’t receive any bad news.
Hundley is one of the best players in the country, and there’s no doubt that UCLA’s hopes rest on his cannon arm. It’s too early to speculate as to the nature of this injury, but it pays to be optimistic in the short-term. A rare talent physically, Hundley has received some Cam Newton comparisons over the past couple of months, though his primary goal will be to improve against the pass rush; UCLA’s offensive line isn’t making that easy for him, as he definitely misses former standout guard Xavier Su’a-Filo, who is currently with the Houston Texans.
As of me writing this, the No. 12-ranked Bruins are up 3-0 on the Texas Longhorns. I doubt this is a serious injury, but we’ll keep a close eye for anything resembling an update.
Update: Hundley has reportedly injured his left elbow, and the Bruins wanted Hundley to stay down so that they could use the injury timeout on him.
Update: Some great news here, as the LA Times’s Chris Foster was told by a “UCLA official” that Hundley’s return is “probable”, as it looked like he could miss the rest of the game.
Update: The Bruins have announced that Hundley’s return is “probable”. There’s nothing to worry about here; you may exhale slowly.
