Jordan Cameron Injury: Cleveland Browns TE not expected to play

facebooktwitterreddit

Cleveland Browns star tight end Jordan Cameron caught just two passes for 47 yards in last week’s overtime loss to the rival Pittsburgh Steelers, as he was forced to leave the game early after injuring his shoulder. We found out after the game that Cameron actually aggravated the AC sprain he suffered early in training camp, thus already putting his status for Week 2 in doubt. Although Mike Pettine and the Browns have held out hope by only listing their best, non-suspended pass-catcher as questionable, Cameron never practiced this week and has never been expected to play.

  • Early this morning, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported, via a league source, that Cameron is indeed expected to miss today’s big matchup against the New Orleans Saints, so Brian Hoyer will likely have to feed Andrew Hawkins over the middle of the field. Hoyer’s forte is throwing tight, timing routes over the middle of the field to possession receivers in the short and intermediate range, so Hawkins is a steady slot guy that fits his playing style perfectly.

With Cameron out, the Browns will reportedly try to get creative by going against what we’ve heard and actually using special packages with backup quarterback Johnny Manziel. Against the Saints, the Browns need to do anything possible to capture lightning in a bottle, and Cameron’s injury has exacerbated that need. At this point, there is almost no chance Cameron plays, but he hasn’t been ruled out either.
