RG3 injury news ‘positive’, timeline still 4-5 weeks

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III left yesterday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in the fourth quarter after suffering a severe ankle injury, and we knew he would be out for a chunk of time. We later found out that RG3 dislocated his ankle on the scramble, and it looks like he will be able to avoid surgery. The timeline was tentatively set at 4-5 weeks, and that is still the expectation at this point in time.

  • The Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole reports that the injury updates surrounding RG3 have been “positive” to this point, as Cole informs us that the 4-5 week timeline has not wavered. That’s excellent news, because most of us were worried that the Redskins would be forced to extend his timeline. It might not matter if Kirk Cousins can perform well against a legit defense, because there have been rumblings over the past few months (and they haven’t ceased) that the Redskins would rather start Cousins and believe he is superior to the former No. 2 overall pick in the same draft.

Cousins had 250 passing yards and completed two-thirds of his passes in a breezy 41-10 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars yesterday afternoon, as the Jags looked downright dead on both sides of the ball, especially on the offensive line (it’s probably the worst in the NFL). The Redskins will have a much tougher test next week against the Philadelphia Eagles, so we’ll see if Cousins is game for the first full game of what should be a stretch of starts.
