Marcedes Lewis out 6-8 weeks

The Jacksonville Jaguars suffered a 41-10 blowout defeat at the hands of Kirk Cousins and the Washington Redskins today, and they also added two more pass-catching injuries in Allen Hurns and Marcedes Lewis, who both left with ankle injuries. Hurns didn’t have the best Week 2 outing before going down, but he was a beast in Week 1 and in the preseason and would be a tough loss.

  • We don’t know Hurns’s status at this point in time, but Lewsis’s status isn’t good. The Jaguars announced today that he will miss 6-8 weeks with an unspecified ankle injury, though I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before we learn the nature of this ailment. Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley stated that Lewis is not a candidate for the real injured reserve (obviously), but he is definitely a candidate for the short-term injured reserve.

Lewis is one of the most dependable players on the Jaguars, and the loss will be felt the most in the blocking department. While he is a nice pass-catcher, Lewis is a better blocker, and the Jaguars run blocking has been absolutely pathetic so far this season (their pass protection, of course, has been just as awful to watch). We’ll see if Lewis does hit the short-term IR, and his injury leaves the Jaguars woefully thin at the tight end position.

Yeah, no point in risking Blake Bortles this year.
