Mark Ingram will miss at least a month with broken hand

New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram looked like a huge bust up until the middle of the 2013 season, as he hit a low point at the beginning of the year after getting benched and being mired in trade rumors that were never going to happen. I mean, why would anyone want to trade for Ingram at that point in time? Well, he turned things around big-time with the weak Dallas Cowboys front seven (sans Sean Lee at that time as well) serving as a catalyst, and he had two exceptional rushing days against the Carolina Panthers and Philadelphia Eagles (playoffs). Ingram looked like the lively rusher at Alabama rather than the inefficient, indecisive plodder from the first two years of his career.

  • Although the Saints lost to the Cleveland Browns yesterday in a disappointing 26-24 upset, Ingram and Jimmy Graham were two major bright spots on a Saints offense that underperformed. Ingram put together a great game on the ground with 83 yards on 11 carries and a TD with three receptions to boot, and this came after a very nice Week 1 performance against the Atlanta Falcons, which included two touchdown runs.

It didn’t seem like an injury was evident at the time, but Ingram actually suffered a major injury despite putting together a great game. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Saints RB broke his hand and will be out for at least one month. Schefter reported earlier today that the back would miss “about” a month with some sort of a hand injury, but the new specificity of the injury has yielded some really bad news for the Saints; this is one of the last things they needed, as they are coming off of two tough, close losses and have now lost their most talented rusher.
