San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis has avoided a major ankle injury and could be available to play this weekend per Matt Maiocco. Davis had an MRI on Monday and it revealed a deep bruise, but there was not any structural damage.

More from San Francisco 49ers

That is some great news for the 49ers. Davis is a huge weapon on offense for Colin Kaepernick and the crew in the passing game. Davis is a tough matchup for defenses. He already has 2 touchdowns this season.

Last year, Davis had 13 scores for the 49ers and he is projected to have another strong season with Kaepernick throwing him the ball. As long as Kaepernick doesn’t get all Tony Romo again, things should be good. Having Davis on the field should help him keep that Tony Romo effect away.

Keep an eye on his status this weekend. He is a tough player and will be working to get back on the field. The 49ers would love to have him out there.
