Michael Vick not a fan of wildcat?

The New York Jets have sprinkled in some wildcat plays this season in order to try and keep defenses off balance, but offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg’s tricks haven’t yielded any success to this point. It’s probably time for the Jets to reassess things when it comes to the wildcat, because they are specifically bringing backup QB Michael Vick- a favorite of Mornhinweg’s- onto the field on these wildcat plays.

  • When asked if the Jets will stop running the wildcat, ESPN New York’s Rich Cimini replied in his mailbag feature that while it hasn’t taken Smith out of a “rhythm”, it hasn’t exactly been helping the Jets offense. Cimini points out that the Jets have run five such wildcat plays led by Vick, with none of them gaining positive yardage.

It’s pretty clear that the Jets need to change their approach, and it will be interesting to see if Vick gets his way. Cimini writes that Vick is not a “fan” of running these wildcat plays, and this is worth noting. If he doesn’t like it, then I doubt Geno Smith does either. Vick stated that he doesn’t expect the Jets to run the wildcat on Monday night against the Chicago Bears, and that will be all for the better.
