Jamaal Charles Injury: Kansas City Chiefs plan to sit RB

facebooktwitterreddit

Kansas City Chiefs star running back Jamaal Charles is clearly the most important player on the team, but the Chiefs will likely be without him for today’s 4:25 p.m. ET matchup against the Miami Dolphins, who are 1-1 after losing to the rival Buffalo Bills last week (they did, however, come back to beat the rival New England Patriots in Week 1). The Chiefs will likely have to avoid going into an 0-2 hole without Charles, though Knile Davis is a perfectly capable running back.

  • FOX Sports’s Jay Glazer reports that Jamaal Charles is still “hurting” this morning, and Chiefs head coach Andy Reid prudently wants Charles to show that he can avoid aggravating his ankle injury before he will let the star back play today. Per Glazer, the Chiefs are planning on sitting Charles out today, and it looks like the Chiefs want to feel confident that he’s about 100% before letting him loose.

While most of us would rather see Charles out there today, it’s always nice to see teams put the best interests of a player first, especially when it comes to health. Charles clearly doesn’t have a high-ankle sprain, but the Chiefs don’t want to push anything here. I mean, it would be a huge blow for him to suffer an aggravation today, simply because the Chiefs rushed him back too quickly. Keep a close eye on his status, because this almost certainly isn’t the last update you’ll hear on his status.
