RG3 Injury Update: Washington Redskins QB has 6-8 week timetable
Washington Redskins third-year quarterback Robert Griffin III is out for several weeks with a dislocated ankle that he suffered early in last week’s blowout victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Although RG3 didn’t suffer a fracture on top of the dislocation, he’s always been expected to miss a significant amount of time, giving Kirk Cousins a fantastic opportunity to actually usurp RG3 and become the team’s franchise QB (which would cause Griffin to hit the trade block, but that’s all wild speculation based on stuff that hasn’t happened).

The initial timetable for RG3’s return was set at 4-5 weeks, but it was quickly moved up to 6-8 weeks, even if the Redskins have been predictably quiet on the status of their starting QB (Brian Orakpo and other Redskins players are trying to calm down storms of a controversy by affirming that this is still Griffin’s team). This offseason, it was reported several times that the Redskins preferred Cousins to RG3, so solid play from the Michigan State product could lead him to claim the starting gig.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported, per Rotoworld, today that RG3 is still expected to miss 6-8 weeks with the dislocated ankle, so the fact that the timetable is still the same means that Cousins still has several games to impress and bank on this golden opportunity. He has elite weapons around him, even if DeSean Jackson doesn’t play against the Philadelphia Eagles today.
