Philadelphia Eagles Jason Kelce could miss two months

Philadelphia Eagles star center Jason Kelce emerged as one of the league’s best offensive linemen last season, and, off the top of my head, I can’t come up with a more athletic blocker at the position. Kelce and Evan Mathis helped lead LeSean McCoy to an incredible season on the ground in Chip Kelly’s first year at the helm, and the likes of Kelce, Mathis, and Jason Peters were the real heroes of the Eagles high-scoring offensive attack.

  • Unfortunately, Lane Johnson is still suspended and Mathis and Johnson’s backup Allen Barbre are injured, which has severely decimated the once-great Eagles line into a unit that has been quite mediocre through the first few weeks. The Eagles are still doing fine thanks to comebacks and strong play from the pass-catchers (Darren Sproles, baby!), but it sucks to see what was unquestionably the league’s best line worn thin by injuries.

Howard Eskin reports that Kelce could miss “up to two months” with “some form” a hernia and will likely need surgery to repair the damage. Kelce went down yesterday against the Washington Redskins, and this timetable would constitute a lengthy absence for arguably the league’s best center. With Mathis out until at least Week 10, the Eagles will have to hope that the “next men up” can hold down the fort.

Seriously, can you believe the Eagles rotten luck?
