Kansas City Chiefs Eric Berry has high-ankle sprain
Kansas City Chiefs star strong safety Eric Berry left the team’s Week 2 loss to the rival Denver Broncos with an ankle injury that was later diagnosed as a sprain of unknown severity. Berry was previously battling a lingering heel issue from the offseason, but he was still able to fly all over the field for 15 tackles and a pass defended in Week 1 against the Tennessee Titans, though he didn’t have the strongest game in coverage that week.

Per a source close to ESPN’s Adam Caplan, Berry is confirmed to have a high-ankle sprain, so it looks like he’ll be out for a couple of more weeks after already missing Sunday’s win over the Miami Dolphins. It’s a tough blow to a Chiefs team that lost Jamaal Charles for a game (he should be back this week, though) to what has been termed as an ankle bruise- not a sprain- and is looking to hit .500 this week against the New England Patriots. While the Pats didn’t look convincing against the Oakland Raiders, Berry is one of the league’s best at covering tight ends and will be missed against Rob Gronkowski.
It will be interesting to see if we get any further updates on the extent of Berry’s high-ankle sprain, but I don’t think he’ll play this week and will probably check in as questionable against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 5. There’s no doubt that Berry is a sensational, important player to the Chiefs, especially since he is the strength of the secondary and one of the best safeties in the game. Sometimes I wonder if a few people don’t understand just how special of a talent he is.
