Indianapolis Colts Pep Hamilton not on hot seat

facebooktwitterreddit

Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton has been a lightning rod for criticism over the past year, and there were actually rumblings that he was on the hot seat last year after running a ground-and-pound offense behind a woefully ineffective Trent Richardson instead of riding star QB Andrew Luck, top wideout T.Y. Hilton, and the passing attack. Ahmad Bradshaw is healthy again and rolling, T-Rich is still ineffective, and the passing attack is even better this year with Hakeem Nicks in the fold and Dwayne Allen healthy.

  • The Colts have about an even run-pass split relative to the rest of the league (pretty much everyone passes more than they run), but the offense is third in scoring and second in yardage despite middle-of-the-road efficiency statistics. They were given a boost by the non-existent Jacksonville Jaguars pass defense, but it’s still been a comfortable start to the season on offense for the Colts.

When asked in his mailbag feature if Hamilton is on the hot seat, ESPN NFL Nation’s Mike Wells replied that the offensive coordinator’s seat is “nice and cool”, adding that he believes their yardage outputs constitutes a “blueprint for success”. Hamilton is totally safe right now, but I’m sure some Colts fans will remain unconvinced.
