Washington Redskins Trent Williams did not have an MRI

Washington Redskins star left tackle Trent Williams is one of the best in the business, and he’s put together another strong season so far while mostly protecting Kirk Cousins’s blindside with Robert Griffin III on the shelf for several more weeks. Williams might land on the shelf, too, but it looks like he’s avoided a significant injury after exiting the team’s Thursday Night Football blowout loss to the New York Giants with a knee injury. It didn’t look good at all at first, and Williams reportedly needed an MRI on his right knee yesterday despite his belief that he didn’t suffer any ligament damage.

  • It looks like Williams’s assessment that he avoided ligament damage is correct. According to Mike Jones of the Washington Post, Williams didn’t actually need an MRI after all, and Redskins head coach Jay Gruden added that his franchise LT is just sore at this point. It’s excellent news for the Redskins, who could ill-afford any sort of injury to arguably the most talented player on their offense (and they have plenty of talent on O).

Per Jones, Williams is currently regarded as day-to-day, and he still has a shot at playing in next week’s tough battle against the Seattle Seahawks and their elite defensive line, which includes superstar DE Michael Bennett.
