Bernard Pierce expected to be ‘eased into game’

Baltimore Ravens starting running back Bernard Pierce missed last week’s game against the rival Cleveland Browns with a thigh injury that was more severe than we thought during the practice week, as he has just about no shot at suiting up. However, Pierce has swiftly recovered after being held out of the Week 3 contest, as he was able to fully practice this week and was only listed as probable on the Ravens official injury report.

  • That said, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that the Ravens will likely ease Pierce back into things today against the Carolina Panthers, who will be without star linebacker  Thomas Davis after it initially looked like the veteran would be able to suit up. Pierce is definitely playing today, but Mort warns us that rookie running back Lorenzo Taliaferro is in a “position to be productive” today against the Panthers, meaning that he will get carries.

Taliaferro has been impressive so far this season, and he roasted the Browns on the ground with 91 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries in his first rushing action of his career. He certainly deserves more reps, and the Ravens could finally have a credible running game if he can emerge with Pierce and Justin Forsett also on the roster.

Pierce had an awful Week 1 performance against the Cincinnati Bengals and earned a benching to Forsett after fumbling, but he bounced back with a solid 96-yard performance on TNF in Week 2 against the rival Pittsburgh Steelers.
