Calvin Johnson Injury: Detroit Lions WR still expected to play

facebooktwitterreddit

Detroit Lions superstar wide receiver Calvin Johnson could have a monster day against the New York Jets, especially since the Jets won’t have top second-year cornerback Dee Milliner out there again. Johnson already has over 300 receiving yards on the season, and he should easily surpass triple digits today if all goes well against an easy Jets secondary. Although Johnson is listed questionable on the injury report, he’s always been fully expected to play after practicing on Friday (star players like Johnson don’t really need practice to play, though a lack of practice obviously causes huge concern).

  • That expectation hasn’t changed as we head closer to kick-off between the Lions and Jets, as Lions excellent official site beat writer Tim Twentyman tweets that he expects Johnson to suit up and play today. Megatron, per Twentyman, is currently doing his normal drills during pre-game warm-ups, which is yet another positive sign regarding his status.

Matthew Stafford is never afraid to give Calvin Johnson a huge diet of receptions, and that has continued even with Eric Ebron, who will see a bigger role this week with Joseph Fauria ruled out, and Golden Tate in the fold. The Lions coaching staff is perfectly fine with Johnson getting the brunt of the targets, so don’t expect things to change.
