Calvin Johnson Injury: Detroit Lions WR will play

facebooktwitterreddit

The Detroit Lions are gearing up for today’s game against the New York Jets, and Matthew Stafford and Co. should be able to launch a big passing day on a pass defense that will almost certainly be without top cornerback Dee Milliner, who continues to deal with nagging injuries. Lions superstar wide receiver Calvin Johnson is listed as questionable on the injury report with an ankle injury, but the fact that he was able to practice on Friday (Megatron can easily play without practicing, though it obviously makes him a risky toss-up) indicates that he’ll be out there barring a setback.

  • ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Calvin Johnson will be active today against the Jets, thus confirming our beliefs that surfaced when he returned to practice at the end of the week. Most of these gameday reports leave things a bit open by stating “expected to play”, but Schefter uses “will”. Fantasy football owners should feel just as confident starting Johnson, because there is little risk here and massive reward with Megatron pitted against a not-at-full-strength Jets secondary today.

Johnson has been targeted as frequently as ever by Stafford, and the Lions coaching staff wants him to feel free to go after his top target. With 19 receptions for a whopping 329 yards and two touchdowns, he’s certainly brought the goods so far this year.
