Pittsburgh Steelers Ike Taylor says he’ll be back in six weeks

Pittsburgh Steelers veteran cornerback Ike Taylor suffered an incredibly gruesome injury in the team’s huge Sunday Night Football victory over the Carolina Panthers last week, and some even thought that the cornerback’s arm had snapped in half. He was diagnosed with a broken forearm, and it looked like Taylor was guaranteed a trip to the season-ending injured reserve here in the final year of his contract after taking a paycut this offseason.

  • FOX Sports’s Jay Glazer reports that Taylor won’t be out for nearly as long as we thought, as the CB told Glazer that he expects to be back in six weeks. Players almost always give overly optimistic timetables, so I would expect Taylor to be out for a bit longer. Still, that’s a much shorter timeline than “out for the year”, and Glazer reports that Taylor had 15 plates and two screws inserted into his forearm.

The Steelers will start William Gay, Cortez Allen, and Brice McCain at cornerback in his absence, and they will be facing off against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who desperately needed a long week of rest after being blown out on Thursday Night Football in Week 3 by the rival Atlanta Falcons. Overall, Taylor’s loss isn’t a big one for the Steelers, because he’s one of the most burn-prone players in the league at this age. But after what happened last week, he’s clearly also one of the toughest players in the league.
