Teddy Bridgewater Injury: Minnesota Vikings QB had clean MRI

Minnesota Vikings rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater took his first step towards stardom yesterday in his first career start, as the Louisville Cardinals product made short work of a porous Atlanta Falcons defense that features a non-existent pass rush (critical for an underperforming offensive line that is without right guard Brandon Fusco). Bridgewater threw for 317 yards on just 30 attempts for a whopping average of 10.6 yards per attempt, and the incredibly efficient, smart signal-caller also showed off his under-appreciated rushing ability by crossing the goal-line for six on a run.

  • Bridgewater’s big day was curt short after he was carted off the field with an injury to his left ankle, but he was able to avoid a serious injury. X-Rays on the ankle came up negative yesterday, and the St. Paul Pioneer Press’s Chris Tomasson reports today that Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer stated that Bridgewater’s MRIs came back clean. He’s been expected to be healthy enough to play in this week’s game against the Green Bay Packers on Thursday Night Football, and, per Zimmer, that expectation hasn’t changed.

It’s still worth monitoring Bridgewater’s practice status going forward, though Zimmer also adds that his rookie QB is doing “a lot better” since he suffered the injury yesterday. The Packers pass defense has looked strong this year, but Bridgewater should benefit from a porous run defense, which will improve the Vikings rushing attack, thus taking some pressure off of him.
