Vernon Davis Injury: San Francisco 49ers TE says he’s ‘fine’

San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis was able to suit up for yesterday’s win over the Philadelphia Eagles after missing the previous week with a significant ankle injury, but the tough TE was forced to leave the game in the third quarter after absorbing a hard hit to the back from Eagles star linebacker DeMeco Ryans. Davis told reporters after the game that he is dealing with back spasms following the hit, but he confirmed that X-Rays turned up negative, which was important given the gruesome nature of the injury.

More from San Francisco 49ers

According to CSN Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco, Vernon Davis stated that he is “fine” following the scary incident yesterday, though it’s worth noting that he is the kind of player who will downplay the effects of an injury. We’ll know more about his status by Friday once a week’s worth of practice has been completed, but it sounds like he is expecting to play next week against the Kansas City Chiefs, who could still be without star strong safety Eric Berry (he’s out tonight against the New England Patriots for a second straight week due to a high-ankle sprain).

Davis said of the injury, “I’ll be all right. I’ll be good. I’ll be fine. I’m not worried about. Everything should be cool.”

We can only hope he’ll be OK going forward, and I would consider him highly questionable to play against the Chiefs until we receive further information. So far this season, Davis has nine receptions for 91 yards and two touchdowns (both came in Week 1).
